We created the SISTER TEAM program to connect teams across the world to share both stories and resources.

SISTER TEAMS are groups of girls and young women who play sports, who share their stories, and support each other.

Through this unique initiative we pair teams throughout the world and the U.S. to be “sisters" through a series of one-on-one conversations and pen-pal relationships.

Through our SISTER TEAM program, the girls share stories of their lives and build cross-cultural relationships, and support one another in pursuing their dreams both on and off the fields and courts.

As facilitators we help teams set up their sister team relationships, program their pen pal communications, and help teams get access to equipment or funding for equipment.

HOW IT WORKS

• We pair teams of a similar age, but often times players of different sports, together. Once two teams are paired, the sharing begins.

• We facilitate a video Skype call where teams meet each other for the first time and get to see and greet each other.

• Then individual girls are paired with a "Sister" with whom they will communicate with on a monthly basis. Depending on the team resources or access to communication devices, we tailor each team communication plan individually. For example, some teams may only have access to computers during a school period.

• Each month the teams will receive a topic for discussion and sharing, from simple sharing prompts, such as: What is a normal day like for you? to more in depth prompts, such as: How would you describe strength?  Each sister pairing will communicate via Skype, WhatsApp, email, to share their thoughts.

• From the start, we work with the teams and coaches to determine what both teams want to get out of the experience.

• Typically a goal of raising funds for equipment, or collecting gently used sports clothes or gear will be made, and we work with teams to help them raise the funds or collet the gear.

• The Through Her Eyes project then facilitates the distribution of the funds or equipment to the Sister Team.

• These relationships are meant to be the start of a long lasting partnership that continue past the end of a season, as teams and players grow.
